Good afternoon! This is Rick Parker, Principal of Indian Land High School calling with a Sunday Weekly Update. Last week was a big week and a lot was going on around The Land. The Be Pro Be Proud interactive simulation eighteen wheeler was on our campus Thursday and Friday showcasing potential careers available to our students. Students can go to BeProBeProudSC.org to get into their database and be alerted of potential apprenticeships and job openings in the SC area. Baseball, Golf, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, and Track all fared well in their contest! Baseball won the series with Fort Mill. On Friday, Boys’ Soccer won in overtime against Fort Mill 2-1 and Girls’ Softball defeated Fort Mill 4-1. Our concert bands played at Concert Performance Assessment. This is like the EOC for concert bands. Both bands earned the highest score possible. Concert band superior with distinction and Wind Ensemble superior with distinction. This means they scored the highest possible from all the judges. This is the first time that Indian Land High school has ever taken two bands to CPA. And the first time any band has ever earned superior with distinction in grade 5! Also our Business Professionals of America (BPA) are South Carolina State Champions! We have 23 students who placed in the top 3 for their individual event categories and all 7 of our student Teams took 1st place in their categories. Mrs. Girard and Ms. Bergren could not be more proud of all of these amazing students. On Saturday, our Palmetto Pride Club and I worked hard to complete their landscaping project located in the front of the school where we installed an “IL” in the landscaping bed. Steve Sinclair Landscaping, who maintains the school grounds, was instrumental in helping bring our vision to life! All we have left is to add the flowers!
We ended the week with my wife and I attending the JROTC Military Ball where Sergeant Major Cato recognized top cadets for their outstanding accomplishments for the school year! JROTC’s mission is to, “To Motivate Young People to be Better Citizens”, to develop well-rounded citizens. They do just that!
When I spoke to the cadets, I mentioned you’re a part of something special, a team. When you wear that uniform, everyone in here is one! You stand for something, you believe in something, you are all in! Think about sports teams that wear uniforms, FedEx wears uniforms, Band wears uniforms, when you have that uniform on you’re fighting to win. And the word WIN has the word “I” in it. It requires a bunch of “I’s” all working together to WIN! When you take care of the WIN - What’s Important Now a WOW factor occurs - When Others WIN! I am proud to serve you! I am proud we are all on the same TEAM! After all, TEAM stands for - Together Everyone Achieves More!
Don’t Forget! Springtime is coming and did you know about our Agriculture Greenhouse? Our FFA (Future Farmers of America) Organization has it going on! Their Greenhouse is full of plants, hanging baskets, etc. If you like working in the yard or planting a garden, you need to mark your calendar to come shopping at ILHS FFA Plant Sale April 12-15!
