W.I.N. Update - March 2, 2025

Good afternoon, this is Rick Parker, Principal of Indian Land High School, calling with our Sunday Weekly Update.

·       Congratulations to our Band who had 22 of our High School Region Band kiddos!

·       This past weekend, February 21st-23rd, 18 of our Theatre Honors students represented Indian Land High School at the South Carolina High School Thespis Awards. We had 12 individual events overall, with the festival hosting over 500 events among 34 schools. Ten of the twelve events that performed received excellent ratings, with 2 of the events receiving Superior, the highest ranking possible at the Thespis. This is spectacular in and of itself, but extra special for the students because it's our first time doing the Thespis!

·       Congrats to JROTC! Here are the results from the 4th Brigade JROTC Regional (Southern) Bullseye Archery Competition (JROTC National Qualifier), held in Charlotte, NC on 22 Feb 2025.  There were Twenty-Six schools represented, with a total of Fifty teams combined. ILHS Team A finished Second overall with a score of 1608 points.

Here is What’s Important Now for next week:

·       Recovery will be held Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (4:15pm-6:15pm) and Saturday (8am-2pm) of this week. Students will meet in the commons area promptly at 4:15.

·       Panorama Survey:  Monday, 3/3, to gain strategies for student success and a strong school culture, we have an upcoming LCSD Student Panorama Survey that will be given during the second period. The Panorama Survey offers a comprehensive, actionable view of every student in one system by identifying their strengths and weaknesses to improve Skills for Success Areas. Each Class of 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028 will have identifiable strengths and weaknesses for continuous improvement through high school. The more reflective our students are, the more effective they are! Please encourage your student to complete the survey with vitality. Our goal is to achieve >95% participation on the survey so we have captured every student's responses. I have included a letter from me explaining the survey and an option to Opt-out if a parent does not want your child to participate.

·       SC School Climate Survey: Section 59-18-900 of the Education Accountability Act requires that annual school report cards include “evaluations of the school by parents, teachers, and students.” Parent perceptions as collected in the Parent Climate Survey appear on our school report card and provide school staff with insight to possible issues within our schools. Additionally, results from the Parent Climate Survey are used by the Education Oversight Committee to meet the requirements of Section 59-28- 190 of the Parental Involvement in Their Children’s Education Act. One parent or guardian of students enrolled in South Carolina public schools may complete one Parent and Guardian survey for each student. There is no restriction on what grade students are enrolled in for this survey; parents or guardians of students in any grade may complete the survey.  You may complete the Parent Climate Survey between March 3 and March 21, 2025. See attached instructions for accessing the survey.

Lastly, I spoke to the students about GPS (Global Positioning System) and how it tracks your positioning, navigation, and timing. I asked them to think about it in another way related to school (Growth Performance System). Use their GPS to determine the precise location and position of how they are doing in school. 24 hours a day and it is free! Sources (satellites) include the Teacher, PowerSchool, Google Classroom, and Coach. The students and parents can daily track their GPS and how are they monitoring their daily performance.

Graduation Date is May 29th @ 11:00 am

 Have a great week!
