I would like to welcome our new Assistant Principal, Greg Wenger, to The Land who began in his position mid-November. He is came to us from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools as a former Dean of Students. I am so proud to add Mr. Wenger to the administrative team.
We have a lot happening before we finish first semester.
Here is What’s Important Now for next week:
State EOC Exams Test Week:
We completed our EOC Blitz last week where students during their FLEX time received 50 minutes of preparation instruction for the EOC exams. We begin our EOC testing on Tuesday, 12/10. Please remember that during EOC testing there are no early dismissals due to being in school testing mode. Once the EOC is over, regular dismissals may occur. All students need to be present for this exam as EOC tests count 20% of the students final grade. I have challenged all students taking an EOC exam to earn a minimum of 80%. If they do, they will be receive a special invitation to attend an EOC Party with food, beverage, and music to celebrate their hard work and accomplishments! I hope I give out a lot of invitations.
The EOC Testing schedule is a follows:
· Biology is Tuesday, December 10
· English II Reading is Wednesday, December 11
· U. S. History is Thursday, December 12
· Algebra I is Friday, December 13
Students enrolled in Dual Enrollment U.S. History will be scheduled to take the EOC test that is in line with the required South Carolina EOC for U. S. History high school credit. EOC for Dual Enrollment students who have completed both HIS 111 and 112 will be on the same day as other EOC testing for U. S. History.
Teacher Made Final Exams are Thursday, 12/19 and Friday, 12/20 (this is a half day for students). Senior Exam Exemptions:
If a senior has earned a 60 average in their courses that have a teacher made exam they are exempted from the teacher made final. However, if a senior has missed more than six days in a class, they will have to attend school on 12/19 and 12/20 to avoid going over their allotted absences per class.
Recovery:
Any student that misses more than six days in a 90-day class (three is a 45 day class) must complete Recovery to earn their grades. We have Recovery next week:
Tues/Wed/Thursday 12/10-12/13 - 4:15-6:15 pm in the Commons Area; Saturday 12/14 8-2 pm
Winter Band Concert is 12/10 from 6-7 pm at ILMS.
Dance Recital is 12/13 from 7-8:30 pm in our auditorium.
STUCO was originally hosting our annual Gingerbread Event at Indian Land for the community children on Saturday, Dec. 7th but due to the community not realizing to utilize the GoFan App to purchase tickets we postponed it to the upcoming Saturday, 12/14. The event is from 10-1 pm. Please go to GoFan to purchase your $5 tickets.
Chorus Concert is 12/17 from 6:30-7:30 pm
Cell Phone Policy: Beginning second semester, 1/7/25, Lancaster County School District will enforce the state mandate of no cell phones allowed to be used during the school day. Students may bring a phone and keep on their person, but will only be allowed to use it before school or after school. No cell phones will be allowed to be used in class, during class transitions or lunchtime as we do now. Having these conversations now to prepare for this change will help with the new district policy. Consequences on the Behavioral Student Matrix will begin with warnings and lead to Refuse to Obey. Please review the behavioral matrix to familiarize yourself with Refuse to Obey.
Schedule changes for second semester guidelines:
Please read carefully. Here is the link for the Spring 25 Course Change Form with the guidelines:
