Monday, 11/4: School Improvement Committee Update: An effective School Improvement Council (SIC) is one that harnesses the energy created when parents, students, and community members partner with their school’s principal and teachers to achieve results that better the education and educational environment provided by their school. We will gather data, assess school and school community needs, establish realistic SIC goals, and evaluate how the successful completion of those goals has positively impacted their schools and the students we serve. The SIC is uniquely positioned to directly contribute to the life of Indian Land and the well-being of its students. My goal is to assemble an amazing team of people that come together once a month to help create that W.A.R.R.I.O.R. Mindset that prepares the Land to soar to new heights. I am excited to launch our first School Improvement Team Meeting on Monday, November 4th from 6-7 pm. I hope you will join me! Here is the link to the virtual meeting for everyone interested in joining.

Indian Land High School Families,

Preparing our students for college is integral to the Indian Land High School Mission. A growing concern is the cost of college for our families and the staggering college loan debt U.S. students are incurring while earning their degrees. Last year, Consumer Reports published an article revealing the economic crisis that many college graduates are feeling.

Some Facts:

College tuition costs rose 275% from 1970-2013 (after adjusting for inflation).

71% of students that graduate from four-year colleges have student loans.

Since 1999, student loan debt has increased by 500% while incomes for young workers have decreased by 10% since the year 2000.

So, are college degrees important? YES. In every measure of economic well-being and career attainment—from personal earnings to job satisfaction to the share employed full time—young college graduates are outperforming their peers with less education (Pew Research Center, Feb. 2014). Our families can be armed with the information to get there in the best way.

On November 13th at 6:00pm, The College Funding Coach® will offer free webinars to Indian Land High School Families.  The purpose of this workshop is to help parents understand college costs and plan for the best ways to pay for them. Please make attending this workshop a priority. You can register to attend through this link: Indian Land High School – Little Known Secrets of Paying for College: https://www.thecollegefundingcoach.org/class/indian-land-school/

11/18- 6 pm Representative Brandon Guffey will be at ILHS to speak about Gavin's Law- Mr. Guffey is Gavin's dad and will share his family's story and ways to help other families avoid another tragedy- this affects of all us whose children have access to technology no matter their age

Upcoming Events: Please add to your calendars this year's Beta and NHS induction ceremony, which will be held Monday, November 18th at 6pm. Parents, your sophomore or junior may have received an invitation to join the ILHS National Beta Club or National Honor Society or both. Both clubs celebrate academic excellence and promote service and leadership in our school and community. If your student intends to join, new membership fees and an RSVP to the induction ceremony is due no later than Oct 30th. Returning members may also pay their yearly dues by the October 30th deadline.
