Good afternoon, this is Rick Parker, Principal of Indian Land High School, calling with a Sunday Weekly Update. We had an incredible homecoming week! So many students and staff participated in our Spirit Week, our Pep Rally was full of excitement led by Julia and Ava, we crowned Lexi Richardson as our 24-25 Homecoming Queen at the football game, and we ended the week with our Homecoming Dance, crowned Kent Hampton as our 24-25 Homecoming King with everyone dressed in the Roaring Twenties dancing the night away under the stars! Thank you for all the donations that are coming in for Western, NC. It was definitely a great week!
Our Boys’ Volleyball Team are 9 -1 in region play. Ranked #3 in state, # 3 in 5A, and #1 in Region. They won all 3 region matches this past week in 3 sets. VB team won this week in 3 sets against Catawba Ridge.
Here is What’s Important Now for this upcoming week:
This upcoming week is a three-day week with students out Thursday, 10/17, Friday, 10/18, and Monday, 10/21 for Fall Break.
Our first ninth week grading period ended on Friday, 10/11. This grading period is a check point time. I encourage you and your child to reflect on how they are doing academically, behaviorally, and with their attendance. Students can only miss 6 days in a class before they need to do Attendance Recovery. Student tardies start over for the next 9 weeks. This will give our students a chance to redeem themselves after 9 weeks of practice. Being OTOT (On Time On Target) for each class is extremely important. I appreciate your support with this school wide expectation.
Starting Monday, 10/14, we are back on following the District Dress code. Please make sure your student is in compliance when they leave the house to school. Mid-Drift and pajama pants are our main violations.

School Improvement Committee Update: An effective School Improvement Council (SIC) is one that harnesses the energy created when parents, students, and community members partner with their school’s principal and teachers to achieve results that better the education and educational environment provided by their school. We will gather data, assess school and school community needs, establish realistic SIC goals, and evaluate how the successful completion of those goals has positively impacted their schools and the students we serve. The SIC is uniquely positioned to directly contribute to the life of Indian Land and the well-being of its students. My goal is to assemble an amazing team of people that come together once a month to help create that W.A.R.R.I.O.R. Mindset that prepares the Land to soar to new heights. I am excited to launch our first School Improvement Team Meeting on Monday, November 4th from 6-7 pm. I hope you will join me! The first meeting will be virtual and I will send out a link for everyone interested to join.
