W.I.N.  Update -October 6, 2024

Good afternoon, this is Rick Parker, Principal of Indian Land High School, calling with a Sunday Weekly Update. Warrior Nation is partnering with our Western North Carolina neighbors by providing a Hurricane Help Relief Drive. We will be collecting relief supplies during all athletic contests and during the school day in the front office. Here are list of nonperishable and disaster relief supplies needed:

·       Canned Goods
·       Boxed items
·       Baby Food
·       Pet Food
·       Water/Gatorade/Powerade
·       Baby items (diapers, wipes, formula, & baby food)
·       Feminine Hygiene Items
·       Rubber Gloves
·       Paper Towels
·       Toilet Paper
·       Garbage Bags
·       First Aid Supplies
·       Toiletries (Travel Size)

A shout goes to our Girls Tennis team with a big win over Rock Hill on Tuesday, our varsity Football Team with a big win over Nations Ford on Friday and our Band who placed 1st in their competition on Saturday.

Here is What’s Important Now as we “Prepare the Land” for the week ahead! 

  • This week is our Homecoming Week! We will have Spirit Days Monday-Friday, ending the week with a Pep Rally and our Homecoming Dance on Saturday from 7-10 pm. The Theme days for the week are as follows:

    • Monday- White Lies Day- Everyone wears a white t-shirt with a small fib written on it.   

      • Ex: You love to drink Dr. Pepper- Your white lie would be you hate Dr. Pepper

    • Tuesday- Y2k Day- This is a day to dress like we are back in the 2000s!

      • Ex: boot cut jeans, velour tracksuits, pastels, metallic, cowl necks, pedal pushers (aka: Capri pants), and showy accessories, from furry bucket hats and trucker caps to bowling bags and butterfly clips, denim jackets

    • Wednesday- PJ Day- Come and be comfy at school!

      • Wear your favorite PJs or Onesies

    • Thursday- Minion Day! - Find your inner Minion and join the tribe! 

      • * Fun fact- a group of minions is known as a tribe! 

    • Friday- WARRIOR OUT!

      • Wear your Warrior colors and bring the school Spirit! Blue and Gold!

  • FLEX Time: The purpose of Flex is extra time built in the schedule to provide PRIORITY small group academic support for any student that is under performing, provide a REQUIRED MASH (Missing Assignment Study Hall), or provide student choice enrichment activities or club time for those who are all caught up and in good academic standing. 

Warrior University October Events:

Events during Flex or school hours are for students- juniors or seniors not on campus may still come to Flex events. Evening events are for families of students.

· 10/1, 10/3, 10/7FlexCollege Essays- we will review one model application essay each session

  • Thursday,10/10 @ 6 pm- Fall Dual Enrollment/AP Night- please complete this form by 10/7, so we can have an accurate count (pizza will be available for purchase) and be sure to address your questions during the rotations- This really is a must for anyone thinking about or taking DE/AP courses

    • Info to know about AP and DE:

      • Students can take AP classes in grades 10-12

      • Some AP classes are just one semester, others are year long with the fall prep part of the course being honors levels and the spring part being the AP level

      • Students with a 3.0 can start taking DE courses the summer between sophomore and junior year (and really need to if they are trying to complete a 60 credit associates degree by ILHS graduation)

      • We partner with the University of South Carolina- Lancaster, Winthrop University, and York Technical College

· 10/9 & 10/30Flex-National Guard- come ask questions/hear what they have to offer to help pay for college- Did you know you can start the process of joining as a junior?

From the Testing Coordinator:

On Monday, September 30, all students participated in the Panorama Student Wellness Survey. We had over 88% of our students take part in the survey. The Panorama Student Wellness Survey results will provide us insight into student mindsets, engagement, behavior, and feelings.

·       SOPHOMORES, your PSAT is coming up on October 23, 2024.  Mark your calendar now for this date, and you will receive more detailed information at the beginning of October.

·       JUNIORS, if you are interested in registering for the PSAT October 23 as a qualifier for the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test program, email Dr. McManus, the testing coordinator for ILHS.  The deadline to request registration is September 20at 5:00 p.m. There is a test fee of $18.00 required to take the National Merit test.  Space is limited, so if you are interested, act quickly to secure a spot.

PTSO Family Membership: $20 / Staff Membership - $15
I would like to be a PTSO Member to help support Indian Land High School.  

o   Becoming a PTSO member is easy and provides support to all ILHS students and staff! Membership gives you a voice! PTSO Members vote on PTSO business. (One vote per household). 
o   Membership is active for one year from Jul 1st - June 30th.
