Sunday Weekly Update 9-15-24
Good afternoon, this is Rick Parker, Principal of Indian Land High School, calling with a Sunday Weekly Update. On Tuesday, 9/10 our College advisor, John Austin, coordinated the annual ILHS College Application Day in the gym where students were provided the opportunity to apply to the S.C. colleges of their choice, at no cost. Thank you to all staff who helped make this event a success. A special thanks to our JROTC for providing a touching ceremony in front of the school on 9/11. Kudos to our boy’s and girls’ volleyball and tennis team for hard fought games this past week. Congrats to our staff who had a district classroom walk-through on Friday where they shined in their classroom instructional practices. And lastly, a Shout Out to our Band for a great performance on Saturday in the stadium! I am so proud of all our students and staff!
Here is What’s Important Now as we “Prepare the Land” for the week ahead!
The first grading period ended 9/11. First quarter Report Cards go out on 9/17. This is a time for students to reflect about this performance and adjust any habits that can contribute to their academic success. Please keep a check on your student’s grades in PowerSchool.
FLEX Time: The purpose of Flex is extra time built in the schedule to provide PRIORITY small group academic support for any student that is under performing, provide a REQUIRED MASH (Missing Assignment Study Hall), or provide student choice enrichment activities or club time for those who are all caught up and in good academic standing.
From the Testing Coordinator:
On Monday, September 30, all students will participate in the Panorama Student Wellness Survey. The Panorama Student Wellness Survey provides insight into student mindsets, engagement, behavior, and feelings. School administrators and counselors will use the survey data to plan ongoing social and emotional learning support at the district, school, and individual levels. A link has been provided for you to review the survey questions.

Also, I am providing a principal letter with an opt-out form if you choose for your child not to participate in the survey. The Opt-out Form needs to be returned to the school by 9/27.

Students are only allowed to miss six days in a class. Missing over six days requires them to complete recovery to earn their grade. Attendance Recovery was offered this past week for students on Tues/Thurs and on Saturday.
We have developed a Warrior University for students and parents to learn about important information for each grade level. These monthly sessions lead by our counseling team are designed to help improve our communication and keep you in the loop about opportunities and procedures. We had a great turn out in our first session last week. If you missed it. Please see the attached link upcoming for Monthly seminar sessions.
I am proud of our students striving to be OTOT to class. A minute bell has been added to provide a signal help improve us even more so all students plan accordingly when walking to class.
Please remind your student that lunchtime areas are only the Commons and Courtyard. Students are not allowed to go off campus for lunch or to the parking lot and sit in their cars for lunch. This is a violation and consequences will be provided.
LCSD Dress Code: please remind your student that they are not allowed to wear clothes to school that show their mid-drift or sleepwear (pajama pants). If they are addressed they will be asked to change or call home. Repeated offenses will result in a consequence.
I leave you with this quote for the week: “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” Colin Powell
The theme for the Home Football game vs. Marvin Ridge on 9/20 is White Out. Everyone wear white!
Have a great afternoon!
